Y2K Summer Trends That Deserve A Comeback In 2026
The pieces that can easily fit into today’s wardrobes.
Summer is the time of year that makes me the most nostalgic, probably because I strongly associate it with school holidays and, hence, my childhood. Years have passed, and fashion has definitely changed since then, but there are many worthy trends I wish would make a comeback this season. Some of them are already on the edge of a comeback, while others remain in the shadows. Let’s revisit some of the most stylish Y2K trends and see what we can bring into 2026.

Bandanas
They are, in fact, having a moment this season, but in a slightly different way. The classic cotton bandanas with a paisley print have undergone a bit of a metamorphosis, leaning into delicate lace or silk styles. I actually love those as well, as they channel a soft cottagecore aesthetic. Still, I can’t help but miss the OG bandanas that were everywhere in the 00s.

Overalls
Not just any overalls, but denim shorts and skirt styles, also known as "shortalls" and "pinafore dresses”. The best thing about them is their practicality: on hot days, you don’t really want to overthink putting together an outfit, so overalls come to the rescue. They’re easy to pair with almost any top and look effortlessly stylish. Of course, there are other fabrics to choose from, such as velvet, twill, or canvas, but I feel like it’s denim that brings the best Y2K feel.

Low-rise mini skirts
Since we’re on the subject of denim, I couldn’t skip low-rise miniskirts. They were literally a must-have a couple of decades ago, so if you want to recreate that era, this is definitely a style to consider. The charm of these skirts lies in their simplicity: they’re not too sophisticated or overly statement on their own, but once you build an outfit around them, they just work.

Gladiator sandals
I can’t even begin to describe how cool these once were: wearing gladiator sandals could instantly make you the most fashionable girl on the playground. Then, almost overnight, they suddenly disappeared, occasionally reappearing in the form of heeled versions with straps. I truly wish they would make a proper comeback, as they feel like the perfect summer shoes, giving off effortless seaside holiday vibes.

Capri pants
Capris, on the other hand, didn’t vanish as dramatically, but they’re rarely among the trends of recent years. And that’s a shame because they are ideal for those chill summer evenings when it’s too hot for pants but not quite warm for shorts. I love capris for their versatility: they come in different shapes and fabrics for every taste. My personal favorite, for instance, are the cargo styles.

Tank tops
They haven’t gone anywhere and are still considered an essential in any capsule wardrobe. However, in recent years, I don’t often see tank tops worn on their own without any layering. And while they look great with shirts, cardigans, or jackets, I love how soft and simple they feel by themselves. They are among the ultimate '00s staples, especially when paired with denim shorts or a mini skirt. If you’re looking for something more playful, baby tees in different colors and fun prints work just as well.
And if you miss nostalgia-inspired fashion as much as I do, browse through my Fizzypicks to find the best pieces of that era.
