With the New Year approaching, soon you will be thinking about new year’s resolutions. With this comes many people saying they could do with changing their diet and losing some weight. After all, it’s not a good Christmas if you haven’t overindulged on everything edible that you see! Changing your diet and improving it doesn’t have to be hard; in fact, you can make a big difference in your daily routine with a few small changes. Below are five ways to improve your diet.

Reduce your portion size

Oversized portions are one of many key factors for putting on weight and trying to lose it. Although it seems simple, trying to reduce the amount you eat can have a big impact when trying to improve your diet. Instead of finishing everything you’ve cooked, freeze some, or have it for lunch the next day. One tip is to serve your food on a smaller plate; that way, you trick yourself into thinking you are having a big portion, even though you may not be.

Eat five portions of fruit and vegetables a day

It is doesn’t matter whether you eat more fruit or vegetables; it’s just recommended that you have five portions of either daily. When cooking your evening meal, try and include more vegetables within the meal, such as adding peppers into a spaghetti bolognese. During the day, bring some fruit to work which you can snack on, and in the morning, try and add some sort of fruit to your breakfast, whether that a smoothie or berries in your greek yogurt.

Drink more water

As with your fruit and vegetables, health experts recommend drinking at least 2 liters of water daily. Not only is this good for your hydration, but it also helps with reducing headaches and improves your memory and your mood. Water also helps make your feel more full during the day, reducing the need to snack on unhealthy foods when you get peckish.

Make sure you are getting the right amount of vitamins and minerals

It is important that you are regularly getting in enough minerals and vitamins within your diet. Without, you could be deficient in certain areas, which may cause you to feel differently from normal. For example, during the winter in the UK, you can suffer from Vitamin D deficiency, which is why some people take vitamin d tablets. You can use an app on your phone to track your diet, and it will tell you what you lack. If required, you can always look at purchasing some NMN Supplements as a natural option. Some supplements have other benefits, like helping you grow your hair.

Track what you eat on an app

As touched on above, try and use an app to track what you eat daily. Here you will see how many calories you eat a day and what is good and bad for you. It may be that you haven’t even realized that your diet isn’t the best and that you can easily make some changes. If you snack in the evening, you may not know you do this regularly, or maybe you drink a lot of squash instead of water, consuming a lot of sugar. It’s these things that easily get missed if you haven’t ever paid attention to it.
