Versace And Fendi Make History Debuting ‘Fendace’ Collection

The two Italian fashion houses closed Milan Fashion Week out with a bang.

POSTED BY RAINA MENDONCA

The two heritage Italian fashion houses, Versace and Fendi, made history closing out Milan Fashion Week with their debut of ‘Fendace’. The show-stopping catwalk event was under the creative direction of Donatella Versace and Fendi’s artistic leads – Kim Jones, Silvia Venturini Fendi, and Delfina Delettrez. The two Italian designers came together to design and innovate on behalf of the other's brand – a true swap based on mutual respect and friendship.

Each designer was given full access to the archives of the other house as well as the freedom to reinterpret the house’s creative expression. Though Donatella and Silvia have both never designed for another brand before, the two masterminds agreed it would be a fun way to welcome back live runway shows. By chance both designers picked out pieces from the same time period, and thus, the creation of Fendace was underway.

Such a memorable moment in fashion history could only be accompanied with an all-star roster of models to sport the unique collection. The runway was reserved for a combination of both the past and present generations of supermodels, creating a multi-generational line-up that was truly unforgettable. Since both designers had coincidentally chosen the ‘90s when looking through each other’s archives, it only seemed natural that the catwalk was graced with the presence of iconic ‘90s supermodels. This included Naomi Campbell, Kristen McMenamy, Shalom Harlow, and Karen Elson. Current leaders pioneering diversity and change in the modeling industry also hit the runway, including Imaan Hammam, Mona Tougaard, and Sora Choi.

The Fendace collection could be described as a unique transposition of two cultures that ushers in a wave of togetherness and sincerity. It moves away from the idea of competition and egocentrism and shows the magic that can ensue when we come together out of love and respect.
