Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, even though it may look different this year than ever before. For most of us, we’re approaching the one-year mark of the COVID-19 pandemic. That means that this year’s Valentine’s Day may not be filled with the usual events you’re used to.

Depending on where you live, you might not be able to take your partner out to eat, go out to a movie, see a concert, etc.

So, what can you do to get creative this Valentine’s Day and show your partner that you love them, even in the midst of so much uncertainty in the world?

Go With the Classics

Let’s be honest, valentine’s day flowers are never a bad idea. They have stood the test of time for a reason; people truly enjoy getting them. The same could be said for chocolates or other traditional gifts. They might seem cliche in the moment, but it’s the gesture that counts, and when your partner knows that you were thinking about them enough to buy a gift, they will undoubtedly feel the closeness of your relationship.

Get Creative

If there was ever a year to get creative with your Valentine’s Day plans, it’s this one! If you’re not able to go out somewhere with the one you love, think of some creative things you can do at home.

Being creative and doing something you know your loved one will specifically enjoy is a great way to be a better partner. You might even find that thinking outside the box allows you to focus more on your relationship, rather than spending a lot of money at a fancy restaurant.

So, cook dinner for your partner at home, and watch your favorite movie together. Or, plan a picnic (while socially distancing) in your favorite park. Go for a walk around your neighborhood and pretend to be tourists in your own town.

There is really no limit when it comes to creative date ideas. Just make sure they are as specific as possible to your relationship and the things you both enjoy.

Plan for the Future

This pandemic won’t last forever, and there is already a light at the end of the tunnel. So, why not start planning ahead for all of the things you want to do together in the future? Look at travel websites and start planning your dream vacation. Whether you’re serious about traveling or you just want to make up a fantasy trip, it’s a fun way to think about moving forward and getting out of the rut of this pandemic.

Dreaming with your partner is also a great way to feel closer and connected, since you’re sharing your thoughts with each other and being more vulnerable.

Valentine’s Day will always be a hit. This year, it’s still estimated that the industry will make $25 billion in Valentine’s gifts.  But, whether you go with a traditional holiday or try something new and creative, the most important thing is to make sure your partner knows how much you care. The last year has been full of ups and downs. Valentine’s Day is a great way to strengthen your relationship and show your partner you’ll be there for them through everything.
