Relaxation is a vital part of promoting wellbeing. If you can’t relax, you’re more likely to end up stressed, burnt out, and potentially sick.

A good relaxation session can lower the blood pressure, boost mental health and relieve pain amongst other things, so it’s definitely something you should be making an effort to fit into your life. But, what if the usual stuff like meditation and breathing exercises doesn’t work for you? We got you covered with some of the more unusual ways to relax this year.

ASMR videos

Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response videos have blown up in popularity in recent times, and it’s not surprising, because, for those people who they are effective, there are few things quite as relaxing.

If you didn’t already know, ASMR videos are videos that often contain soft whispering or other gentle ambient noises that can trigger a sort of tingly relaxation response in many people. Give them a try and a whole new world of relaxation may just open itself up to you.

Shisha

Shisha Tobacco is said to have a relaxing effect. It can be purchased in many varieties, from apple to gum cinnamon, and for many people, it can be the perfect way to chill out at the end of a stressful day or on a lazy weekend, especially when sharing with friends, if and when that is possible again.

Earthing

Earthing often referred to as grounding, is the practice of taking your shoes and socks off and walking barefoot on the grass, sand or earth. Whether you believe some of the morse unusual claims about being imbued with the earth’s energy when you practice earthing, it is fair to say that it does have a relaxing effect on the body. The feeling of being in nature without restrictive shoes, just spending some time doing nothing much at all, is a great way to trigger the relaxation response, so why not channel your inner hippy and give it a try?

Laughter yoga

Laughter yoga may sound strange, but if you’re open-minded enough to give it a go, you could soon be feeling more laidback than The Dude himself. What is it? Basically, a bunch of people get together in a room and laugh, laugh and stretch.

Both laughter and yoga have been shown to have amazing benefits for the body and mind, including being able to boost the immune system and lower stress levels, so really, when you think about it, they are the perfect combination.

Do that thing, you know the one

That thing that you’ve been putting off for a while now. Once it’s done and dusted, you’ll breathe an instant sigh of relief and the stress will just melt away. Procrastination may seem like a good idea at the time, but it just stores your stress up for the future and makes it impossible to relax. Do that thing and get back to feeling great.

I hope, after reading this, you take more time to relax in more interesting ways.
