Underrated TV Fashionistas We Don’t Talk About Enough

It’s time these characters got the recognition they deserve.

POSTED BY ANNMARY MAILYAN

When you think of fashion icons from TV shows, a few names instantly come to mind: Blair Waldorf, Carrie Bradshaw, or Rachel Green. Even if you haven’t watched their series, you have definitely heard of them or even pinned their outfits to your Pinterest boards for inspiration. However, there are many other stylish characters I’d like to highlight today, because they deserve their moment of recognition as well.

Rory Gilmore (Gilmore Girls)

Rory has never really been labeled a TV fashionista. An inspiration for all the bookworms? Absolutely. A style guru? Not quite. But with the rise of the Poetcore aesthetic, I’ve been noticing more appreciation of her wardrobe, and that genuinely makes me happy, as I’ve always loved Rory’s comfy, understated, and effortless outfits that still managed to feel intentional and powerful.

Jenny Humphrey (Gossip Girl)

Jenny wasn’t the easiest character to root for, I know that. She made plenty of questionable choices and often acted recklessly. Still, I have to admit that I loved watching her style transform from cute girly ensembles into darker and edgier looks that mirrored her character arc. It’s fair to say that she earned her title as the ultimate grunge-glam queen.

Phoebe Buffay (Friends)

If Friends were released today, I’m sure Phoebe’s style wouldn’t be slept on. She’s essentially a whimsical aesthetic muse with her eclectic layers, bold colors, and free-spirited combinations that perfectly capture her essence. Perhaps her outfits weren’t as polished as Rachel’s or Monica’s, but they radiated originality and charm in a way no one else’s did.

Spencer Hastings (Pretty Little Liars)

Spencer was always known as the brains of her friend group, rather than the fashion standout, unlike Alison or Aria. She was even teased for her “grandma outfits” filled with structured shirts, blazers, and cardigans. Now, though, she would probably be crowned the best-dressed of them all, as she effortlessly embodies the ideal dark academia aesthetic. Funny how the tables have turned.

Camille deLalisse (Emily in Paris)

We were so busy with Emily and Mindy’s bold, eclectic wardrobes that we didn’t really pay attention to Camille. Her looks may be more simple and understated compared to her friends, but they read effortlessly chic, giving that authentic French fashion energy. She somehow managed to combine romanticism and edginess in her outfits, and I truly loved that about her style.

Elena Gilbert (The Vampire Diaries)

When watching the series for the first time, Elena’s style didn’t stand out much, as it reflected the trends of that era: fitted tops and low-rise jeans paired with a leather jacket. But now, as we collectively romanticize the late 00’s and early 10’s, Gilbert has suddenly turned into a fashion inspiration. Turns out she was just quietly ahead of her time.

Discovering a new favorite character always makes me want to reinvent my wardrobe and dress more like them. If you’re anything like me and want to channel some TV-style energy into your closet, make sure to check out my FizzyPicks for the perfect pieces to recreate these looks.
