Trending Lip Oils: Which Ones Deserve Their Popularity?

A guide to help you find the best lip oil for you.

POSTED BY NATASHA TURNBULL

Lip oils have skyrocketed in popularity over the last couple of years, and it feels as though every beauty brand is coming out with its version. If you weren’t aware, lip oils aim to nourish and hydrate your lips while providing a glossy shine. However, they are usually more lightweight than lip gloss.

With such an oversaturated market, it can be difficult to decide which lip oils are worth the hype. Also, with some of the most popular options being expensive, it’s important to decipher which products are worth your money.

This article will review some of the highest-trending lip oils and help you decide if you need them in your beauty collection.

Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil

This product from Dior is the most viral lip oil on the market. While it has been trending for years due to its appealing packaging, range of shades, and designer name, it is debatable whether it is truly worth its $40 price tag. The applicator is easy to use, but the formula acts more like a lip gloss than a lip oil. While the product does provide great shine to the lips, is very thick and sticky.

This is not ideal as most people invest in lip oil for its smooth and lightweight feel. Although it currently comes in eleven shades, each color option looks similar as the formula is very sheer. Even the darker shades such as Mahogany and Bronzed Glow provide very little pigment to the lips. If a sheer color payoff is something you’re going for, this may be an option for you.

Clarins Lip Comfort Oil

If you’re looking for a true, lightweight lip oil, this option from Clarins could be your best choice. This product has also become a fan favorite over recent years, and for good reason. The formula is noticeably less sticky than the Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil while still leaving a glossy shine. It also contains ingredients such as jojoba oil and sweetbriar to nourish the lips.

Retailing for $30, the product comes in ten different shades. There is a clear variation in the colors as they all appear differently after application, making this product suitable for everybody.

Gisou Honey Infused Lip Oil

Gaining viral popularity for its aesthetically pleasing packaging, the original version of this lip oil took the world by storm after its release in 2022. However, Gisou has released four new versions of their hit product in shades Watermelon Sugar, Strawberry Sorbet, Coconut Frost and Mango Passion Punch.

The formula is honey-infused and contains hyaluronic acid, which helps boost hydration. While some people noted that the original formula in 2022 felt like straight-up oil on their lips, it’s now speculated that the brand has reformulated its product ahead of the release of the new shades. The formula feels smooth yet not sticky, with some shades such as Watermelon Sugar also adding a beautiful sparkle. They retail for $32.

Fenty Skin Fenty Treatz Hydrating + Strengthening Lip Oil

Both Fenty Skin and Fenty Beauty by Rihanna have had a global impact on their diverse and versatile skincare and beauty products. The lip oils which were originally released in 2022 add to this growing collection. At the start of July, the brand released two new shades: Dragon Fruit and Black Cherry.

The product has been complimented for its soft and easy-to-use applicator and nourishing and non-sticky formula. However, there isn’t as noticeable a color difference between the shades, unlike other products on this list. This is a good option if you’re mainly looking for moisture rather than an impressive color payoff. It is also the cheapest lip oil on this list, costing $24.
