The Story Behind Nia Archives' Love for Dr. Martens
A rebellious spirit.
Dr. Martens, known for its rich cultural history, began as a practical work boot but quickly became a symbol of rebellion, gaining popularity with British subcultures such as punks and skinheads in the '60s and '70s. Over time, the brand’s influence spread, evolving into a global favorite while maintaining a strong link to various music scenes.
In its latest "Boots Like No Other" campaign, Dr. Martens spotlights record producer and DJ Nia Archives, who shares a personal connection to the brand’s iconic 1460 boot. Reflecting on her history with the boots, Nia said, "I wore Dr. Martens every day in school from age 13." She adds that her boots are closely tied to her self-expression: “I don’t know if my music inspirations inform my style but they certainly go hand in hand with how I express myself.”
The campaign video, directed by Rawtape, follows Nia as she enters a store where Danny Dyer, playing a store clerk, presents her with three different shoe boxes, each representing a distinct facet of her personality, sound, and style—all connected by the 1460 boot. The video playfully brings out the shared rebellious spirit between Nia and the brand.
For Nia, the 1460s are a staple: her “current shoes for all live shows and general day-to-day living,” which she pairs effortlessly with jeans or even a Chopova Lowena skirt.
