The Ever Elusive Model Off Duty Look: Hailey Bieber PFW
How Hailey Bieber captured the effortlessly chic, and how you can too.
While trends come and go one thing is here to stay, models as muses for the rest of us. Hailey Bieber gave us a looking glass into this year’s most sought after looks. The model off-duty look is elevated enough to show that you know what you’re doing but easy enough to look like you do not care. This is where the mixing and matching come in.
On the opposite side of the spectrum, we have a more androgynous look which she still looks drop-dead gorgeous in. The key to an all-baggy look is how you can tweak it to be feminine. Keep the makeup light and fresh, highlighting your best features with a "no makeup," makeup look and your best “my lips but better,” shade. This keeps you from looking weighed down because you’re bearing nothing but your face. Give them something to stare at before they notice how oh-so-cool you are. Clean it up with an oversized blazer to bring it all together, and give your boyish charm some feminine sophistication.
Taking some notes from one of her most glamorous looks of the week, we see a look straight off of Yves Saint Laurent’s AW 22 collection that premiered this week. If you don’t happen to be a top YSL client with access to all the ink-black clothes in the world, we’ll just focus on the elements of it: the luxe fur coat and slinky micro mini skirt. One universal rule is making sure your blacks match, but you can differentiate with contrasting textures to make something that might otherwise be flat come to life. That’s the beauty of the model off-duty look, it’s simple but then you throw on a statement piece and wait for the paps outside your door. Next are silhouettes, the width and length of the coat emphasize the shortness of the skirt with the lines drawing attention to your legs and making them look longer. Mix something chunky with something skin tight and you’ll be golden.
Last and certainly not least we have the quintessential going all the way out look. Hailey went for a blushing pink satin mini dress. Her edgy side is shown in knee-high flat platforms. Again we are playing with lines, the dress length and the shoe height have a break in it that keeps the combination of girly and grungy separated to avoid awkwardness. Remember, we’re being effortless so walk carefully on this tight rope. Sophia Loren once said, “A woman’s dress should be like a barbed wire fence: serving its purpose without obstructing the view.” This is what we are capturing perfectly here. The dress is slightly draped just enough to emphasize the waist and hips, cleavage is accentuated by a sweet halter that isn't screaming at you, and the color plays beautifully on tanned skin. Keep all these things in mind when dressing, you are dressing to accentuate yourself: what are your best features, what colors bounce off your skin tone, how tight, and how long do I feel confident in? Confidence is key, if we learn anything from models it's to wear the clothes, do not let the clothes wear you.
