The Epitome of Elegance: Nnenna King at The Jazz Cafe Camden
Her smooth, soulful voice is enough to melt all your issues away.
I am loving life, squished in between a busy crowd on a Saturday night at The Jazz Cafe Camden, vibing along to the beautifully acoustic and laid-back set from Nnenna King.
Drawing inspiration from Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu and Amy Winehouse, the East London based singer-songwriter instantly captivates the audience with her incredibly smooth yet powerful vocals, accompanied by the brilliant Sam Linford on keys, bassist Kome Eleyae and guitarist Jamie White.
It is so refreshing to see an artist who is just as involved in the creative process as they are the performing aspect. As she performs “Good Guy”, a sultry, soulful track which she released earlier this year, Nnenna gets emotional as the entire crowd are singing along - a definite ‘I made it’ moment.
Another outstanding track for me is her exceptional cover of Señorita by Justin Timberlake, in which she demonstrates her astounding vocal range and control. Be right back, I am just heading over to the Soho Live YouTube channel to play it over and over.
Latest release "What You Need" has already racked up 50,000 views on her YouTube channel and it is easy to see why. With the relatable lyrics and intricate melodies, this track is almost certainly one of my favourites! Somehow her voice is even more impressive live - I just can't cope.
A standout aspect is her immaculate stage presence and charisma. She walks on to the stage and immediately all eyes are on her as she exudes elegance, engaging the audience throughout the entirety of the set. Combined with the honesty and openness of her lyrics, it really feels like you are getting to know her.
All of her tracks are available to listen to on all streaming platforms and if you would like to see her live, she often announces her gigs on her instagram! See her live now so you can brag about it when she's selling out stadium tours.
