The Burberry SS21 Childrenswear Collection You Won’t Want To Miss

Eco-friendly and cute? Burberry has our vote.

POSTED BY ALEXIA EVANS

What’s more adorable than children modelling in beautiful garments? Not a lot is the answer. Iconic British fashion house Burberry have released their Spring/Summer collection and it’s filling our hearts with joy. Focusing on the idea of “childlike fascination with the natural world”, the lookbook highlights standout pieces as well as traditional staples such as the infamous Burberry trench coat and gingham bombers.

The sweetest campaign takes inspiration from Burberry’s fond connection with the outdoors and exploration, which can be seen through the children in the images, eyes wide with intrigue for all that’s around them. Arguably, a child's viewpoint is the most optimistic, they search for the beauty around them and ignore any signs of evil, which is something that must be treasured at all costs. This campaign represents this idea of adventure and hope, potentially a theme us adults might want to consider stepping out to a ‘covid-free’ world.

Throughout the collection, the vintage check appears alongside pretty floral dresses with poplin collar detail. Amongst this are baby gift sets featuring a headscarf and miniature beanie all in an English rose print. Accessories include Burberry’s signature Merino Wool teddy as well as an adaptable bum bag, both in the vintage check. Matching sandals and quirky shades are added to make the collection the most precious to date.

ECONYL is the main fabric used in the campaign. It is an eco-friendly regenerated nylon that is made entirely from ocean and landfill waste such as excess material scraps, plastic bottles and lost fishing lines and nets. Sustainability warrior Stella McCartney has frequently used the material in her collections, as well as London-based accessories designer Alexandra Druzhinin

Consideration for the climate is a priority for designers right now as the fashion industry is the second largest contributor of CO2 globally. The fact is that this campaign has further increased its levels of cuteness because sustainable fabrics have been used, and all designers should take notes!

In a collection that meshes “the romance and beauty of nature with utility and practicality” (Chief Creative Officer, Riccardo Tisci), these thoughtful pieces with the greatest attention to detail are sure to be a sell-out.

Shop the full collection on the Burberry website where the pieces range from £45 (approx $62) to £700 (approx $966).
