Women are often overlooked as great directors, but if you want to make your watching experience more feminist here's what you should see this year.

The Colors Within

Yamada is a seasoned director of animated films, with The Colors Within as her fifth feature film. She is known for her thoughtful and heart wrenching stories.

Girls Will Be Girls 

Directed by Shuchi Talati

This is Talatis first feature film. Her work focuses on sexuality and gender from her perspective as an Indian woman.

Gloria!

Gloria! Is our second debut film, Margherita Vicario has a long career in film as an actress but has shifted to a directorial role for her latest film.

Jenny Slate: Seasoned Professional

Those of us who are fans of Jenny Slate (and who isn't) are by default fans of Robespierre, they have worked together for a while and their latest collab is everything you could want if you're looking for a good laugh.

This directorial debut is a stunning animated feature. Tronche is not only the director and writer, but also the voice actor behind the titular character Samuel. If you're looking for animation outside of the norm this is what we would recommend.

Stress Positions

Directed by Theda Hammel

Hammels debut film is incredibly topical, telling a story of the pandemic. She tells the story through humor so impactful it's hard to believe you haven't heard of this woman before.

Your Monster 

Directed by Caroline Lindy

This film takes Lindy's short film of the same name and creates a feature film. Lindy creates a charming little rom-com to warm your heart whenever you need it. It's set to become a classic comfort film for so many.
