Stella McCartney Chooses Sustainable Comfort for Pre-Fall 2021

Time to get consciously cozy

POSTED BY CATHERINE SHUTTLEWORTH

Stella McCartney is known for sustainability, so we might have expected that she didn’t release a pre-collection after debates about the fashion industry’s effects on Climate Change has become a hot topic in recent years. Instead, this collection has a big push towards sustainability – 80% of the collection is sustainable. In fact, McCartney used overstock of fabrics she’s had for the last 20 years in this collection.

We see a range of looks in this collection, from suit silhouettes to flowy dresses, often in bright colors, but the eye-catching aspect is this collection is the fleece pieces. Inspired by McCartney’s own love for skiing, it also reflects our new reality of choosing comfort over style since the pandemic hit.

The majority of the collection is limited edition, in an attempt to eliminate waste during production. McCartney told Vogue, “[…] when we runt out, we run out. I don’t care if I’m cutting off my nose to spite my face, I’m going to save the bloody planet.” McCartney’s commitment to making the fashion industry more viable is a step in the right direction, a step hopefully more brands will take.
