Static Are Tomorrow's Rock Stars

We sat down with the band to talk music, writing from a point of feminism, and stage presence.

Sitting down to talk with Static about what they are working on and what they want to do in the future felt like sitting down with old friends. They are immediately at ease and comfortable talking about their music.

Alicia, the band's vocalist, arrived first. We got the impression that, for her, organizing the rest of the band was like herding cats. Despite giving the impression that she's the one keeping the band on track in their rise to stardom she was a late addition to the band. They didn't really consider themselves as the band they are today until 2022, the year they played their first “good” gig. From there they just took off.

Each member has a different approach to their instrument. Ethan, the guitarist, is at the helm leading the process with a guitar part. Usually Logan and Michael “just feel it out” when it comes to their guitar and drum parts.

Alicia is the lyricist, she told us she has been trying to write from a more personal place. She wants to write more for the girls, with feminist themes. Luckily the band are in the Scottish music scene which is teeming with feminist figures for her to lean on while she makes the change.

The band are gluttons for live performance, telling us that's the best part of being a band. A few of them deal with nerves that seem to be a right of passage in almost every performer's career. You would never know that they experience these feelings. From an outside perspective, they are cool and collected. As the frontwoman, Alicia is often center stage and always looks the part. She gives off the vibes of a lifelong rockstar, somewhere between Debbie Harry and Stevie Nicks.

Ethan, the guitarist, also demands the audience's attention with an energy and look not dissimilar to any indie rock legend. These strong figures on stage would be nothing without the rest of the band who bring cohesion, rhythm, and a large part of what makes that band just so likable.
