A healthy diet with plenty of vitamins is the best way to get lots of health benefits, including reducing the risk of several chronic diseases, and an easy way to keep your body healthy. However, it can be overwhelming to make major changes to your diet. Instead of big changes, start with a few smaller ones. Try some of these small changes to make your diet healthier.

Slow Down

The speed you eat at can influence how much you eat, as well as how likely it is that you will gain weight. Fast eaters are more likely to be overweight than slow ones. Your appetite, the amount you amount, and how full you get is controlled by hormones. These hormones tell your brain whether you’re hungry or not. It takes 20 minutes for your brain to get these messages, so if you eat more slowly, your brain has the time it needs to realize that you’re full.

Eating slowly also means you will chew more thoroughly, which has also been linked to better weight maintenance. By eating slower and chewing more thoroughly, you can maintain your weight more easily.

If you’re wondering what causes heartburn, eating too fast could be the culprit. Slow down to enjoy your food more.

Choose Whole-Grain Bread

You can make your diet a little healthier by swapping to whole-grain bread instead of refined-grain bread.

Refined grains have been linked to several health issues, but whole grains have been linked to lots of health benefits. They could reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.

Whole grains are a great source of fiber, B vitamins, and several minerals including zinc, iron, magnesium, and manganese.

Read the label to make sure your bread is made with whole grains, and not a mix of whole and refined grains. Look for whole seeds or grains.

Don’t Shop Without A List

There are two very important strategies to use when you shop for food: write a shopping list before you go and don’t go to the store hungry.

Shopping without a list leaves more room to impulse purchases, and shopping while hungry can make those impulses stronger.

To stop you from giving into those impulses, plan ahead, and write down what you need before you shop. Stick to your list so you buy healthier items, save money, and have healthier foods around the house.

Drink More Water

Drinking enough water is important for your health. A lot of studies show that water can benefit weight loss, weight maintenance, and even increase the number of calories that you burn in a day.

Drinking water before a meal can reduce your appetite and calorie intake too, which is ideal if you’re trying to maintain your weight.

Try to drink water instead of other drinks, to reduce the sugar and calories you consume in fizzy drinks, coffees, or alcohol. People who drink mostly water tend to consume fewer calories per day than those who drink other beverages.
