Shygirl Releases New Single 'BDE' Featuring Slowthai
Listens to the rapper's first release of 2021.
South East London rapper, Shygirl, has dropped a new single featuring Slowthai.
On her Instagram, Shygirl has been teasing fans with mysterious bedazzled images and a close-up video hinting at new music. Today she released her new single entitled BDE featuring rapper Slowthai.
BDE, short for ‘big dick energy’, is the first collaboration between Shygirl and Slowthai. Both share a similar energy housing distinctive vocals and aggressive undertones. The track was originally leaked but did not yet include Slowthai’s contributions.
The track is the first new music from Shygirl since her critically acclaimed EP ALIAS was released last year and boasts the individuality of Shygirl’s sound. Deep bass and aggressive trap flow throughout and dabbles with sounds often used within hyperpop.
Shygirl’s lyricism is as straightforward as ever. Lyrics such as “If you got what I like, you can hit it every night" may appear vulgar but feel liberating for listeners. Her candid lyrics feel truthful and frank, accompanying her loud brassy sound nicely.
Alongside the release of BDE, Shygirl has also dropped a short film entitled BLU on YouTube. The 15-minute film, which was directed by Shygirl and Mischa Notcutt, shows the rapper in a car and is accompanied by some of her latest singles including FREAK and SLIME.
The rapper has recently gained a huge amount of popularity online with her 2019 track UCKERS becoming popular on TikTok. She has also worked with huge names including Arca and SOPHIE and featured in campaigns for Burberry.
