Hyper-Femininity Is Back
And Sabrina Carpenter might be the reason why.
If you told me a few years ago that basically my entire wardrobe would be pink and sparkly, or that I'd have a selection of skirts and dresses that are in my regular outfit rotation, I’d have laughed in your face, then called my lawyer to file some defamation charges. Okay, maybe that's a bit far, but I definitely wouldn’t have believed you.
Street style and masculine silhouettes really dominated female fashion in the late 2010s and early 2020s. I'd never have been seen without a pair of jeans and a baggy hoodie; it was practically my uniform, and you couldn't leave the house without seeing someone in a boxy blazer!
Now, times have changed, and it conveniently coincides with the rise of pop princess Sabrina Carpenter.

Sabrina is the epitome of femininity and girlhood. Her big, bouncy blonde curls, pink makeup, and babydoll dresses have cemented her as the icon who has dethroned street style’s reign over women’s fashion.
The return of pastel colors—like butter yellow and periwinkle—to runways in recent years can be attributed to the buzz surrounding Sabrina and the way she embraces traditional femininity. I still think about her How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days-inspired backless yellow dress from her 25th birthday: the color, the silhouette, the sparkle—I'm completely obsessed!
Everything from her tour outfits to her Met Gala appearances is on my Pinterest board. I constantly take inspiration from her style. Thanks to her, I always apply a little more blush before I leave the house!

The popularisation of traditionally feminine designer brands, such as Miu Miu and Dior, is also related to Sabrina’s popularity. Hyper-femininity is really having its moment on the runway, with lots of lace, florals, and ruffles. I’ve really been trying to incorporate more of this into my summer wardrobe, opting for floral patterns and lace trims for this season.
There’s never been a better time to be a so-called "girly girl" in fashion than right now. A few years ago, I never would have imagined myself reaching for bows, lace, and sparkles over hoodies and baggy jeans, but now it feels completely natural. Sabrina didn't just change what I was saving on Pinterest—she changed the way I get dressed. And honestly, I don't think my wardrobe has ever felt more like me.
