Renaissance: How Beyoncé's World Tour Created a Fashion Earthquake
She really is *that* girl.
Whether you were lucky enough to have snatched up tickets to see Beyoné live at her worldwide Renaissance tour, or forced to watch a livestream from your not-so-exciting phone screen, we can all agree that Queen Bey served nothing but pure looks when it came to her tour. Grab your silver cowboy hats and your glittery gowns as we take a deep-dive into the wardrobe of fashion's most wanted.
Queen Bey didn't lie, she really is that girl, especially when it comes to fashion. By working with multiple stylists to help our Alien Superstar look tour-ready (Shiona Turini, Julia Sarr-Jamois, Karen Langley, and KJ Moody) to wearing custom pieces created by infamous designers (Loewe, Fendi, Gucci, and Alexander McQueen) she left us all, quite literally, quaking in our sparkly, thigh-high boots throughout this billion-dollar tour.
No wonder this woman caused some earthquakes in the fashion industry and its trends. From her vintage Mugler bee headpiece and bedazzled Miu Miu jorts to her thigh-high silver boots and her Loewe hand bodysuit, which she wore in three different colors—gold, red, and silver—Bey proved that she is, in fact, too classy for this world.
Of course, if you didn't know, the main themes and colors for this tour and Beyoncé's fashion specifically reflected two big influences for the Renaissance album: black culture within house music and disco. And Bey wanted her looks to reflect the iconography of these two music genres. Silvers, golds, blacks, whites, boldness, glamour, and (Sasha) fierceness—all represented the disco-ball-glitz-and-glam that she was channeling through both her fashion and her music. It’s no wonder members of the Bey-hive started taking to socials, rocking their sparkly mini dresses, knee-high silver boots, and leather jackets. Queen Bey’s own tour wardrobe led many to take to the streets, sporting confidence that we can all admire. Fans paraded around in silver stilettos with adorned fans. They tipped their sparkling cowboy hats and vogued in fishnet tights and metallic bralettes. Even non-members of this buzzing hive were joining in the fun and kicking vintage crystal off the bar with their stilettos, leaving trails of glitter wherever they sashayed.
From the top of the morning, Beyoncé certainly does shine, and the effect her iridescence has had on people most definitely shows. Through the new trends that her shiny platform boots and metallic asymmetrical mini dresses have created, we can see why she's still one of the biggest artists out there.
So, the next time you are about to hit the club and are wondering whether it really is worth it to wear that old leather coat or that shimmering sequin dress... just do it! And tell yourself what Queen Bey would most certainly be singing at you from the seat of her throne: "I'm too classy for this world, forever I'm that girl." Because you really are queen!
