Pinstripe Is The New Leopard Print

Pinstripe is something that I have spent my whole life avoiding. My style leans more girlish and maximalist, and in my head, I always associated pinstripe solely with suits and business casual style. However, I've recently seen it creep onto my Pinterest feed in more creative ways than I was expecting.

People wearing pinstripe blazers with shirts, ties, and plaid skirts for a punk look. People wearing pinstripe corsets to suggest a modern take on the design. My personal favorite is the abundance of pinstripe trousers, because you can really wear them with anything — I've seen them styled with leather jackets, ruffled blouses, and more.

Leopard print was the pattern that dominated 2025, and I flocked to it without hesitation. I love the Y2K look, and it's such a staple of that aesthetic. Its iconicity makes it stylish, and you can add a leopard print bag to an outfit without much thought as a surefire way to make the whole thing cooler.

As leopard print rose in prominence, I saw more people claiming that, in their eyes, it's a "neutral color" — something that can be paired with everything. So now I'm thinking: why can't pinstripe be the same? It's never going to be as outlandish as leopard print, but I'd argue it's just as versatile.

I took the plunge and invested in a pair of pinstripe trousers myself (bold of me, I know), and the first thing I did was wear them with a dark band-design baby tee. They matched perfectly. Cool baby tees are garments I've always paired with baggy jeans and short skirts, but the pinstripe trousers completely elevated the outfit. I was elated.

Of course, pinstripe is perfect for a more grown-up look, and that's the vibe it will probably always be associated with in most people's heads — even if it has never really been my style. But sometimes the best fashion discoveries come from trying something you thought wasn't "you."
