Patrick Demarchelier, French Fashion Photographer, Dies At 78

Renowned photographer worked with Princess Diana and Madonna.

A-List Celebrity Photographer, Patrick Demarchelier, died from unknown causes Thursday. According to a post made to his Instagram account, the French photographer is survived by his wife, three sons, and three grandchildren.

Demarchelier was born in Le Havre, France in 1943 and widely learned photography through experience. He was gifted his first camera by his stepfather at 17 years old. Later he moved to Paris where he worked for Vogue, later relocating to New York where he spent much of his time.

Demarchelier’s photography has appeared in Vogue, Allure, Vanity Affair, and Harper’s Bazaar. Along with campaigns for Dior, Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, and Tommy Hilfiger. 

Patrick Demarchelier worked closely with Princess Diana as her personal photographer, taking some of her most memorable photos. Demarchelier has also worked with Beyonce, Madonna, and Jennifer Lopez.
