Patchwork Fashion Is The Way Forward
It can bend to any aesthetic.
When I was strolling through a crystal store the other day, I found myself drawn to the patchwork skirts they sold. My sister had recently been abroad and bought me a similar patchwork skirt, and it got me thinking about patchwork in general.
I mean, we’ve seen an influx of DIY elements with the whimsy trend — buttons, frills, embroidery — and patchwork can definitely lean into that childlike charm. It also works for delicate shabby-chic looks. Perhaps my favorite example of patchwork is a pale blue and pink dress I saw for sale in a vintage store. I didn’t buy it, and I’ve regretted it ever since.
Patchwork can work for more edgy aesthetics, too, especially considering it’s a staple of punk subculture. Any time I see red plaid interwoven into a patchwork design, I know the wearer is going to be the coolest one there.
