"Every few years, the State of Israel deals with a wave of terrorism. After a period of quiet, there is a violent eruption by those who want to destroy us, those who want to hurt us at any price, whose hatred of Jews, of the State of Israel, drives them crazy," Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said in a video statement Tuesday night.

Five people were killed by 27-year-old Palestinian gunman, Dia Hamarsha. Hamarsha, possessing an M16, opened fire on civilians around 8 p.m. in the Tel Aviv suburb of Bnei Brak. Amongst those that passed away Tuesday night were Yaakov Shalom, a father of five, and Rabbi Avishai Yehezkeli, a yeshiva teacher who was shot while on a stroll with his 2-year-old son.

Hamarsha was later gunned down by police officer Christian Amir Khouri. Khouri suffered injuries from the standoff and later died after being transported to Rabin Medical Center-Beilinson Campus.

The attack marks the third fatal incident this week, bringing the death toll to 11. Two police officers were killed in Hadera by Israeli Arab gunman said to be linked to the Islamic State (IS) group. As well as the killing of four Israeli citizens in a shopping center attack.

Fears of more violence loom as Muslim festival of Ramadan, the Jewish festival of Passover and the Christian festival of Easter approach in the coming months.
