Oasis X Adidas Collab: Britpop’s Back, And It Hasn’t Changed
The tour merch that's got us nostalgic.
To accompany their reunion tour, Oasis have released fresh new merch in collaboration with Adidas, that is satisfyingly reminiscent of the 90s – fittingly so!
When the band announced their long-sought-after tour last year after 15 years of separation, it’s like the whole of the UK (and all of their fans from the wider world) joined hands to celebrate. It’s all anyone could talk about – how great it was, how much they wanted tickets, how they were more deserving of tickets because they’ve always liked Oasis better than Blur, etc. And though only the lucky few got tickets, all of us got to profit as, instead of making merch a reward for those triumphant in the Ticketmaster battle, they partnered with Adidas to make a clothing line of merch which is accessible to all, at least those with £70 to spare.
The clothes consist mainly of t-shirts and jackets with athleisure being at the heart - but not modern athleisure which consists of sports bras and leggings (a staple outfit for 2025). Instead, they transported us back in time, and opted for classic sportswear, including coach jackets and vintage-style football jerseys – collars and all! It’s perfect for their fans, as it’s all very Oasis, and by that I mean, it’s massively reminiscent of Britpop. It reminds us of that mid-90s musical movement characterised by sportswear with a slight modish twist, and fuelled by rivalry - the brothers not only being at each other’s throats, but also at their rival Blur’s; and this was all going down with iconic songs in the background. What a time!
Some might say…
Though the merch released was very fitting of the band’s vibe, with the clothes looking straight out of the Gallaghers’ family wardrobe, I can’t help but ask, did we want more? The release is essentially the same top, 10 different times, in 3 different colours, with a rogue bucket hat thrown in the mix. It might be great for those who are craving a capsule wardrobe – if by that you mean a time capsule back to the 90s.
Even if merch was what the fans wanted to commemorate the reunion tour, I think a lot of people would’ve hoped that in the 15 years they spent apart, they might’ve been able to think of a few more merch designs to better appease the patient patrons of the band. It might’ve been nice to have a bit of range or experimentation with new styles to symbolise the band of brothers’ new tour.
Stop crying your heart out
Personally, I still like the collection (despite the side of me who is viciously bitter I didn’t get tickets)! It’s simply done well! And it stays true to the band - with Britpop it was never really about the fashion (although this was a great side effect to the movement), it was about the music. The merch might not have a massive range, but for the British public, it was extremely welcome as we all desperately want our Oasis-obsessed dads to invest in some new clothes. With this collection, the band have gone back to their roots, and kept the Oasis that we all know and love, which should be celebrated! Even if we want more, the sentiment of making merch widely available for the grudging fans who lost the Ticketmaster war is actually really considerate of them.
Their style was iconic, not just in music, but in clothes too. They weren’t necessarily known for their outrageous outfits - one thing that we know about Britpop is that if you’re expecting outfit changes and extravagantly decadent fashion statements, you’re in the wrong place. And there’s something so comforting about the simplicity of that, especially with the pop we’re seeing at the moment, being as much about the clothes as the songs, it’s nice to return to when music was about music. It’s refreshing to see the band back on stage, and even more refreshing given that they haven’t really changed. It brings back the nostalgic feeling to a time that a lot of us either didn’t live through or were too young to remember.
Don’t look back in anger
Whether you wanted more or you’re satisfied as is, we’re all still thankful to see the band back together, with this tour highlighting, in particular, their dedication and love for their fans (which is clearly reciprocated – don’t believe me? Play ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’ in any British pub, I dare you).
To have merch is one thing, to give the fans missing out a whole line of clothing is another. This collection isn’t just them thanking us for buying tickets, it’s thanking us for listening! It’s clear that the years of hoping for a reconciliation has paid off with fans being well-rewarded for all their patience. Here’s to hoping the band will stay together, not only for our sake, but for the sake of the Gallagher family. And who knows, maybe this clothing line will inspire Blur to collab with Nike, and reignite the feud with even more to fight about.
