The local basketball community in Manila is in for a treat as Nike gears up to open an outdoor basketball court named "The Courtyard." This exciting development comes just ahead of the highly anticipated 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, and it's set to provide year-round access to basketball for the local community.

Located in the heart of Bonifacio Global City, a bustling district in Taguig, Metro Manila, Philippines, The Courtyard covers a spacious area of 2,182 square meters. The space will feature two full-size basketball courts made of Nike Grind, a sustainable material created from recycled athletic footwear. Additionally, there will be a half-court training area designed for practice shooting. This outdoor basketball haven is expected to become a popular hangout spot and a hub for sports enthusiasts, particularly the youth in Manila.

Nike is known for its commitment to expanding sports access and promoting community engagement, and The Courtyard is a prime example of this dedication. The company firmly believes that the heart of any local basketball community lies in its courts. By providing these spaces, Nike is actively making the game more accessible to everyone, encouraging active participation, and fostering the growth of the sport.

To make The Courtyard even more meaningful and inclusive, Nike is teaming up with Girls Got Game Philippines, a local nonprofit organization with a mission to empower young women through sports. This partnership aims to create more opportunities for female ballers across Manila. Weekly programs like "Her Hoops" and special events like "Her Weekend" will be available to support and encourage female athletes.

The community engagement doesn't end there. The Courtyard will be home to various activities and events led by Nike coaches, including weekly pickup games and regular basketball camps. These programs will be offered free of charge year-round, ensuring that aspiring players of all ages and skill levels can access top-notch coaching and training.

Nike Members will also have the privilege of reserving the courts through the Nike App, providing a convenient way to enjoy the basketball facilities. The company's commitment to promoting sports extends beyond just basketball. As part of their coaching camps, Nike will organize athlete skills camps, prime-time pickup games, and shoe trialing for basketball campers.

Xavier Nunag, Commissioner of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines, emphasized the significance of The Courtyard's presence in Metro Manila. He believes that playing basketball in this central location adds a special sense of belonging to Filipino basketball culture, unlike playing alone in one's barangay (neighborhood).

The Courtyard's aesthetics are equally captivating, thanks to the artistic touch of Kiefer Indiongco, a local artist. Inspired by the vibrant festivities of the Philippines and the country's profound love for basketball, the design seamlessly weaves traditional patterns with basketball symbols, celebrating the passion and dedication of everyday players in Manila.
