Nike Air More Uptempo Gets A Spring Update

New colorway ‘Light Citron’ announced.

POSTED BY MEGAN MATTHEWS

The Nike Air More Uptempo is one of the most iconic of Nike’s sneaker collections. A favorite of Chicago Bulls dominator, Scottie Pippen in the late 1990s, the shoe range has dominated the hooper scene for the last 25 years. The Nike Air More Uptempo even went to the Olympics with Pippen and Charles Barkely during Team USA’s go-for-gold in 1996.

More recently, the sneaker made headlines as the new color-changing ‘Dress’ c. 2015. Billie Eilish bought a pair of the sneakers and then started a debate across social media over the colorway of the shoe—do you see mint green and white, or pink and white?

The last 25 years have shown a multitude of new colorways for the sneaker collection and this turn of spring 2k21 is no different with the release of the new two-tone “White/Light Citron”. The white synthetic leather base boosts the Sicilian lemonade yellow accents, and the classic Swoosh decorates the toecap, tongue and gem heel. The shoe’s iconic bubble heel remains the same, but the white sneaker nods to a new life of spring, sun and brighter days.

The structural design of the sneaker is what makes the transition from court to cruiser so easy. The shoe was originally designed by Wilson Smith and his decision to have the Nike AIR script flow from toe to heel has become a symbol of the influence of Nike on pop culture in the 1990s. The TPU variant at the tongue shows the sneaker is upkeeping with modern technologies and the outcome is a 1990s baller’s shoe with modern inflexions.

Retailing at $170, the Nike Air More Uptempo lets you walk in the fashion-fitness footsteps of the hooping greats.
