The Resurgence of Nerdy Specs

Retro Comeback: Geek-Chic Trends.

POSTED BY GRACIE ROSE

Long gone are the days of the oversized black frame, today we’re opting for sexy secretary style with the return of rectangular slim glasses. These fashionable accessories can be found with either a slim wire frame or a chunky 90s-style plastic frame, perfect for any look you have planned this season. Originally named the Bayonetta glasses after the video game character, these letterbox frames are regaining popularity amongst social media users and we’re totally here for it.

Think Gisele Bündchen from The Devil Wears Prada or Jennifer Garner on Alias, these ‘it-girl’ frames scream early 2000’s and pay homage to the ‘Office Siren’ microtrend that’s also circulating the internet right now. You heard it here first, clean girl aesthetic is officially out and business casual is taking her place. Sexy librarians for the win.

One of the frontrunners in inspiring the comeback of the nerdy specs is none other than miss Bella Hadid. She has been caught by paparazzi rocking the Bayonetta glasses on several occasions, opting for a silver wire frame. These circulating images of the model have sparked conversation about yet another micro trend that could soon be arising: the ‘Weird Girl Aesthetic’. We’ll keep you posted on that one.

Of course, we have to mention Billie Eilish, as she stuns at the academy awards in her rounded, frameless specs. These geeky glasses have become a statement in her recent looks, as her Insta feed is flooded with pics of her joining in on the trend.

Doja Cat is loving this trend so much that she can’t decide which pair of Bayonetta’s to wear next.

And who could possibly forget Kim Kardashian’s iconic Skims campaign for her Ultimate Nipple Bra, sporting the classic metal frames to play her climate activist character.

So are you going back to the library this season? Pop a pair of geek-chic specs in your office bag this weekend and be prepared to start the working week in style.
