Masculina’s SS27 Show Reminded Me That Fashion Can Still Feel Completely Alive

Never just about the clothes.

POSTED BY ANISSA GALVANI

Every season I wait to see what Alectra Rothschild does next because a Masculina show is never just about the clothes. It feels like stepping into another world where fashion, nightlife, performance, and identity all blur together.

Returning to Copenhagen Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2027 after a short break from the schedule, Rothschild once again proved why Masculina has become one of the city's most exciting voices. Every collection feels like another chapter in an ongoing story rather than a complete reset, and that's part of what keeps me coming back.

The Clothes Always Feel Like They Were Made To Move

One thing I love about Masculina is that nothing feels designed to sit still.

The draped dresses, sculptural corsets, and fluid tailoring all carry this incredible sense of movement. There's glamour, but it's never precious. These are clothes that feel like they belong on a dance floor at three in the morning rather than behind a velvet rope.

What's even more impressive is that beneath all the drama sits an incredibly thoughtful construction process. Rothschild's zero-waste approach means each garment is engineered to adapt to different bodies while avoiding unnecessary textile waste. It's technical, sustainable, and somehow still completely glamorous.

The Community Is Just As Important As The Collection

I don't think you can talk about Masculina without talking about the people wearing it.

From the very beginning, Alectra Rothschild has built the brand around trans visibility, consistently casting trans models, artists, and friends as part of the runway narrative. It never feels performative. It feels personal.

That sense of community gives the shows an emotional weight that's difficult to fake. You're not just watching a collection walk past. You're watching people who genuinely belong in the story being told.

Fashion Still Needs Spaces Like This

While plenty of runway shows chase polish, Masculina has always embraced the energy of underground club culture instead.

There's an immediacy to Rothschild's world that I find incredibly refreshing. The music, the performances, the atmosphere, and the clothes all feel connected, creating something that sits somewhere between a runway, an art installation, and the best night out you've never been invited to.

It's messy when it needs to be, glamorous when it wants to be, and completely unapologetic throughout.

I'm Curious Where The Story Goes Next

Looking back at Masculina's recent collections, it almost feels like watching different chapters of the same autobiography unfold. Themes of transformation, intimacy, vulnerability, and resilience have quietly built into a much bigger narrative over the past few seasons.

That's why SS27 feels like such an interesting moment. Rather than abandoning everything that came before, the collection suggests the story is still evolving. Moving, organically, no rules.

I hope it keeps going. In a fashion landscape that can sometimes feel overly polished and predictable, Masculina continues to remind me that the most memorable collections are often the ones willing to be deeply, unapologetically human.
