Lizzo Revealed As V Magazine’s Latest Cover Star
Continuing her path to world domination.
It’s less than 24 hours since everyone’s favorite woman in pop, Lizzo, revealed that she would be gracing the front of V Magazine’s annual music issue next month. The news was announced in the way that every note-worthy event is in 2019, as the 31-year old shared the upcoming cover image to her 995,000 Instagram followers.
With the likes of Jonathan Van Ness, Ashley Graham and more giving their seal of approval on the post it’s fair to say that Lizzo’s latest cover has been met with quite a bit of love online. And it’s not hard to see why. Not only is Lizzo making major waves in the music industry right now with her kick-ass feel-good beats, but her feature as a cover star for the infamous fashion mag can be seen to represent a long-awaited shift in the fashion industry.
It is no accident that the multi-talented musician’s announcement was accompanied by the caption “Dear big girls, your body is high fashion. You are beautiful. You are worthy. And I am on the COVER OF @VMAGAZINE 😱”
The striking imagery of Lizzo shot by high fashion photographer, Chris Colls, finally displays a type of body so often ignored by the media. Yet these already iconic pictures are far from all; they accompany a candid, inspiring and uplifting interview between Lizzo and fellow musician, Sam Smith. In it, she discusses her relationship with her body as well as her race, telling Smith that her blackness is her favorite thing about herself and simultaneously helping to inspire people of color around the globe.
Seismic for the fashion industry, as well as the representation of women and body types more generally, V Magazine’s appointment of Lizzo as their cover star feels much needed in a climate of continued lack of representation for so many. Meanwhile, the artist’s honest interview serves as a beacon of hope for any of those who have felt what it is to be ignored and marginalized by the mainstream media for too long.
Lizzo, we cannot wait to see what you do next!
