Lemon Drink Are Back And Better Than Ever

We sat down with them to discuss how they've changed and what they have planned for the future.

After a long break, Lemon Drink are back! The break “wasn't supposed to be as big as it was,” but when they briefly reunited they realized they needed longer. With that time came a lot of insight,

“When we came back together we wanted to reassess and plan.”

Reassessing meant plenty of change but they say they are sticking with their roots, only elevating their sound, “Lemon Drink 2.0.”

They're coming back with a bang, they will be playing the closing night of King Tuts Summer Nights festival. Alongside Sister Madds, The Froobz, and Comfort Girl. Bassist, Lauren, told us, “I'm excited for more gals in the greenroom!”

While the scene is growing more equal there's still a while to go and for a band that's predominantly female Lemon Drink are in a pretty solid place to talk about their experiences. They've had a long list of what they call annoyances throughout their careers. They know of the horror stories experienced by other women in the industry so they were slow to call the things they experience a problem.

That doesn't mean they don't have a list of anecdotes ranging from green rooms full of boys who don't respect the shared space, all the way to being held to a higher standard than the men in the same space as them, “As a woman you feel like you have to know your shit.” They look back on experiences in a pretty fun way, making a joke out of people who have underestimated them or made strange comments

This pressure doesn't break them though, it inspires them to get better every day. “There's nothing that makes me want to do a good job more than a little lad who thinks you're going to do shit.”

To show the naysayers just what they're capable of. And what they're capable of is something special, and if the declaration of Lemon Drink 2.0 is anything to go by we're in for something incredible in the future.
