Kering Group Sits Out Fashion Week Again

Is this the right move?

POSTED BY TESS HARDY

This time last year, the Covid-19 news caused a handful of European fashion shows to cancel in Milan and impacted the Paris Fashion Week schedule. A year on, the pandemic is continuing to affect who is and who isn’t showing at upcoming fashion weeks in 2021.

Since the outbreak, we’ve been through two seasons with digital presentations viewed from home, yet many brands have opted out of this route – global luxury group, Kering, included. Brands such as Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga, Saint Laurent and Alexander McQueen have decided to leave the traditional fashion week calendar once more.

It’s unclear whether the off-calendar move is strategic or down to declining sales due to the lack of tourism and international store closures, but we’ll sadly not be seeing these brands in the Milan and Paris Fashion Week schedule this season.

Previously, Gucci created its own film festival as a replacement and Bottega Veneta deleted social media, so how the labels will showcase their upcoming collections is very intriguing.

Kering, pronounced ‘caring’, is a word that reflects how the group builds relationships with their luxury houses, employees, customers, stakeholders and the planet. They aim to be the world’s most influential luxury group in terms of creativity, sustainability, and economic performance. So, despite not taking part in fashion weeks this year, we’re sure Kering will find ways to grow and flourish.
