How To Watch Fashion Week From Your Sofa

All from the comfort of your own home...

POSTED BY CATHERINE SHUTTLEWORTH

The COVID-19 Pandemic meant we all had to adapt this year, and that includes the fashion industry. The last physical fashion week took place one year ago, and a lot has changed since then.

This year, fashion weeks are beginning in a whole new format that’s accessible to everyone - because everything’s gone digital. After navigating new restrictions within the industry for a year, brands have found new and exciting ways to showcase their collections.

Brands have used storytelling through various formats to express the creativity and meaning behind their collections. Virgil Abloh’s AW21 menswear collection gave a lasting impression with a video that included poetry and music, which was captured between Paris and a village in the Swiss mountains. Now, with fashion month still under heavy restrictions, we get to see even more innovation from brands.

So, how do we get to attend digital fashion weeks? Well, be prepared for a simple, yet slightly vague, answer. All you need to do is tune in to a brand’s platform of choice, it could be their website or perhaps Instagram. You can find the dates for shows in Milan and Paris here, and the schedule for London Fashion Week here.

Now, whilst it’s great that we can lie tucked up in bed watching these shows, there are some downsides to this new era of fashion shows. As these are not traditional fashion weeks, it appears many brands have decided to reveal their collections without committing to the traditional fashion schedule. Resulting in some schedules appearing to blur into one another, so make sure to check up on the social media pages of your favourite brands so you can be certain as to when they will drop their collection. All you need is a device, such as a smartphone, to tune into events that have previously been invite-only.

Whilst it may not be as glamorous as previous fashion weeks, it is far more accessible and allows for many of the fashion community to view these shows, without any hassle. This original approach to fashion weeks disregards the previous exclusivity that is often associated with the industry, and could perhaps lead to the inspiration of the next big designer.

So, get ready to watch collections unfold before your eyes, kicking off in New York, with a schedule you can find here. FIZZY MAG will be covering it all, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled on our site for the latest updates.
