Kathmandu's New Eco-Friendly Puffer Jacket
Q-Cycle technology.
Kathmandu, the New Zealand-based outdoor brand, has released its latest eco-conscious innovation: the Epiq SE puffer jacket. This limited-edition jacket is crafted using recycled materials, including plastic waste and end-of-life car tires, as part of the company’s ongoing effort to embrace sustainability. Teaming up with Fulgar, a leader in synthetic fibers, Kathmandu utilized their Q-Cycle technology, which transforms discarded plastic and tires into usable polyamide yarn, effectively reducing waste that would otherwise contribute to landfills or pollution.
The Epiq SE jacket’s outer shell is made with this sustainable yarn and is designed for both style and functionality. With 600-fill power Responsible Down Standard-certified duck down, the jacket offers both warmth and comfort. Its lightweight, water-repellent fabric ensures versatility, and it even packs down easily into its included stuff sack, making it an ideal choice for on-the-go use.
Kathmandu’s General Manager of Product, Karinda Robinson, emphasized the brand’s commitment to responsible practices: "This release marks a major step in our push for circularity in apparel. It’s about turning waste into something valuable while minimizing environmental impact."
An extra innovation in the Epiq SE is the integration of Digital IDs, which allow customers to track the jacket's sustainability journey, offering insights on its design, material sourcing, and repair guidelines.
The Epiq SE is available to purchase online and in select stores, retailing for £255 in the UK, €290 in Europe, AUD 449.98 in Australia, and NZD 479.98 in New Zealand.
