Kanye West Opens Up Sunday Service Session To The Public

Sunday Service takes Wyoming for public performance.

POSTED BY RACHEL TOOLEY

Ahead of the new 'Jesus Is King' album, which releases this coming weekend, Kanye West opened his Sunday Service to the public for the first time since the Coachella gig, which took place on Easter Sunday. West’s choir gathered at the Powwow Garden by the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Wyoming. The event attracted over 700 members of the public, alongside the 80 choir members.

Earlier this month, the rapper purchased a 9,000 acre property, known as Monster Lake Ranch, which he bought for $14,000 USD. The property is located near Cody, Wyoming, the town of which was where the public service was held. Fans have assumed that Kanye was using the ranch to finish his new album, set to be released on the 27th.

West lead his choir through a variety of songs during the public session. Opening with ‘Ultralight Beam’ and following with hymnal versions of classic hits like ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ and ‘Come As You Are’ by Nirvana. The service is becoming known for performing Gospel renditions of pop/rock classics which seem to be popular with fans, after previously converting songs like ‘Jesus Walks’ and ‘Reborn’ into songs of praise.

An Instagram account was unofficially created by a suspected fan who wanted to share the footage from the “amazing day”. With nearly 500 follows, the account has gained quite some attention, you can see some of the footage from the performance below.
