Anti corona vaccine protesters threw gravel at Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau during his general election campaign.

Trudeau returned to his campaign tour bus after visiting a brewery when he was hit by gravel. He was not injured.

The Canadian prime minister called a snap election in August with the hopes of receiving a majority government for his left-of-center Liberal party. However, his campaign has been disrupted by demonstrators against the coronavirus vaccine mandates and social distancing restrictions.

Over a week ago, Trudeau canceled an election rally after a crowd of protestors ambushed the event.

The leader of the opposition Conservative Party, Erin O’Toole, described the incident as “disgusting” and “Political violence is never justified and our media must be free from intimidation, harassment, and violence,” he posted on his Twitter.

Trudeau’s vaccine mandate plans have become a prime issue ahead of the 20 September election.

The Canadian government announced last month that all civil servants, including workers in federally regulated sectors like rail, have to be vaccinated by the end of October. Otherwise, they risk losing their jobs. It has also been decided that cruise, commercial air, and interprovincial train passengers also have to be vaccinated to travel.

Canada currently has one of the highest Covid vaccination rates in the world.

Canadian prime minister Trudeau has been facing security threats. Journalists covering his political campaign have described the anti-vaccine protest mobs as becoming more chaotic than they have been in the past.
