JLo And Shakira To Set The World On Fire At Super Bowl Pepsi Halftime Performance

Whether you’re into football or you just pretend to be once a year so that you can have an excuse to drink beer and eat chips and salsa with your friends, the Super Bowl is undoubtedly the must-see sports event of the year. In the past, the annual Super Bowl has drawn in some of the largest live television audiences and the 2020 event promises to be the best one we have seen in years.
Not only will the 2020 Super Bowl celebrate the 100th anniversary of the NFL, but now two of the world’s most sought-after performers have just revealed that they will be sharing the Pepsi Halftime stage: JLo and Shakira. These two megastars, who need no introductions nor have any use for last names, announced on Friday that they will be performing on what JLo has described as: “the world’s biggest stage.”
JLo released a press release on Friday that described why the event means so much to her. “Ever since I saw Diana Ross fly off into the sky at the Halftime Show, I dreamed of performing at the Super Bowl.” JLo also revealed, “Now it’s made even more special not only because it’s the NFL’s 100th anniversary, but also because I am performing with a fellow Latina. I can’t wait to show what us girls can do on the world’s biggest stage.” We can’t either!
As JLo referenced, the joining of the two female stars highlights a move towards diversity on the world stage as both artists are Latinas. Shakira mentioned the importance of this collaboration by saying: “"I'm so honored to be taking on one of the world's biggest stages in the company of a fellow female artist to represent Latinos and Latinas from the U.S. and all over the world…This is a true American dream and we are going to bring the show of a lifetime!" Wait, could this mean that a collaborative single is also on the cards?
Both musicians expressed their excitement on social media too. Shakira tweeted and Instagrammed a promo shot of the two stars, with the caption: “It doesn’t get any better than this! So excited about getting on that #SuperBowlLIV #PepsiHalftime stage! @JLo #nosvemosMiami #happybirthdaytomeee.” Yup, you read that correctly…Shakira will be performing at the Super Bowl on her 43rd birthday, and she could not think of a better way to spend her day than with the whole world watching. Neither could we tbh.
JLo also tweeted the same image with the caption: “Going to set the world on 🔥🔥🔥 @shakira #PepsiHalftime #SuperBowlLIV @pepsi.” We have zero doubts about this too, considering the performer is currently riding a tidal wave of success following her impressive performance in the movie Hustlers and stunning close to the Versace show in that ‘Jungle dress’ at Milan fashion week just last week. *sigh* So in awe!
The Super Bowl will take place at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida on Sunday 2nd February 2020. Get the date in your diary and get the chips and salsa ready! We know where we’ll be.
