Jacquemus Debuts ‘La Montagne’ In Paris For AW21

Worth the wait? We think so!

After almost a year since the last Jacquemus show, we’ve been graced with the hottest collection from the French fashion designer entitled La Montagne, translating to The Mountain in English. Returning to runway with a bit of normality and a live audience, Simon Porte Jacquemus has curated a color-blocked show of dreams.

The brand has been posting teaser imagery online for the past few weeks of snippets of the collection; camping essentials such as binoculars, tarpaulin sheets and flashlights suggest a tribute to the outdoors. Unlike previous shows in lavender and wheat fields, La Montagne was held indoors at La Cité du Cinéma in Paris on Wednesday 30th June 2021.

Minutes before the show, Jacquemus welcomed us back with a message via Instagram: “For this collection, after such a particular year, I wanted to gather people inside and share a fashion moment together. I wanted to focus on the clothes, the silhouettes, the colors, the fabrics, the details and the energy of the models. I wanted the set to be minimal and sharp, recreating an abstract artistic mountain that portrays the inspiration of the collection.”

The show is current and forward-thinking. Models, including Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid, walk around a domed, circular space on green flooring against a sky-blue backdrop. The audience are lined up on the outskirts of the room sitting on bright yellow blocks.

Jacquemus’ AW21 collection itself is to die for. Classy, casual, comfy yet chic garments are showcased as tactile outerwear for both men and women. Beginning with neutral hues, the theme moves into vibrant color ensembles of fuchsia pinks, reds, highlighter oranges and yellows, and baby blues. The majority of items are plain, with some cropped puffers and shorts featuring floral prints.

It’s a show that really does have it all, from layered knitwear and faceless balaclavas to skimpy bralettes with gold zip accents and baggy corduroy co-ords. Accessories are considered and detailed, featuring two-toned leather crossbody bags paired with knee-high socks, hiking boots, angular sunglasses and distinctive jewelry.

At a time when we need something bright and beautiful, Jacquemus’ first co-ed runway show is awe-inspiring from beginning to end and has won the hearts of many. The viral collection has rocketed and is a piece of art to be proud of.
