Is It Still Acceptable to Wear Sleepwear as Daywear?
Everyone loves a pyjama party, but is it still deemed okay to do so outside?
Let’s hop into a metaphorical time machine and go back in time to 2020 (A.K.A peak Covid times.) These were the glorious days when wearing nightwear as daywear was the norm because we obviously weren’t going anywhere fast. We could get away with wearing satin nightgowns with knee-high boots and a leather jacket on top to nip to the shops, we could lounge around in loungewear – pun deffo intended – without batting an eye. We could basically get away with anything as long as a mask was the finishing touch to our looks.
Now, however, what with the isolating times of Covid long gone, things seem to have changed. People are certainly dressing to impress, and ditching the pyjama bottoms and cami tops in exchange for leather pants and sparkling halter necks. So, with that being said, is it still considered acceptable for us to wear night/sleepwear as daywear? Can we get away with wearing our PJ’s out and about? Or is the time for this kind of thing now over and dead, along with our other Covid-related habits?
Back when daywear was worn out and about...
Back in 2020 and also 2023, wearing nightwear as daywear became a bit of a micro trend, with people rocking their pyjamas to the shops, on walks, and even whilst clubbing. It was like we saw a rise of people not caring so much, but has that changed nowadays?
Are trends now leaning towards bigger and bolder styles?
We think trends have turned to bigger and bolder things, with people starting to dress up as opposed to down, regardless of where they’re going. Even so, does it really matter these days? After Covid hit especially, people seemed so eager just to get out and about after feeling trapped and isolated for so long, that it would’ve been considered acceptable to wear a bin bag! (Although we personally wouldn’t recommend this.)
So what's the verdict?
Whilst it feels as though trends are definitely heading towards bolder, edgier, and more dressed up styles, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t get away with wearing nightwear out and about at all. We might not fully condone it these days – not now we’re all free from the constrictions of those Covid times and the style choices they left us with – but we won’t judge. Sometimes nightwear can actually look pretty killer if you style things right.
