Instagram Versus Snapchat – Another Reason They’re Becoming The Same
As if we needed another messaging service, introducing Instagram’s newest messaging app: ‘Threads’.
Rumors suggest that Instagram is following Snapchat in creating a new messaging platform as if our phone storage needed another one. The competing social media service will reportedly have similar features to Snapchat, and will be designed in a way to be a companion app to Instagram, allowing users to ‘automatically share their location, speed, and battery life with close friends, along with more typical text, photo, and video messages using Instagram’s creative tools’. As well as all this, it will feature updates that have ‘real-time view of information about your location, speed, and more’.
Although this may sound like something new for Instagram, but not for us, this isn’t their first messaging app. They were previously working on a standalone messaging app called Direct since 2017, which seemed a bit too similar to Snapchat, and was canceled in May 2019.
In fact, reports have shown that the average social media user spends more time on Snapchat than Instagram, despite both having similar demographics.
Instagram hasn’t commented yet on the speculation surrounding this new app, or when it will be launched, but Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg are apparently currently testing out ‘Threads’.
