Kylie Jenner Lost Snapchat A Whopping 1.5 Billion

The Kardashian-Jenners are mega-famous and influential, we get it, but after what Kylie Jenner just did to Snapchat, it's kind of getting scary.

On Wednesday, Kylie tweeted, “sooo does anyone else not open Snapchat anymore? Or is it just me... ugh this is so sad.” By Thursday, Snapchat's stock had plummeted by close to 8 percent, which Reuteurs Tech worked out to be roughly a 1.5 billion drop in market value. Ouch.

Although correlation doesn't necessarily equal causation, it looks pretty likely that Kylie had something to do with it, considering she is one of Snapchat's most popular and influential users and has 24.5 million Twitter followers, many of which must have seen the tweet. As The Verge reports, on Wednesday, at 1:30PM ET, Snap's stock was actually on an upturn, but immediately after Kylie's tweet at 4:50PM ET it began to fall.

A few minutes later, Kylie did tweet “still love you tho snap ... my first love” but it was already too late. Oops.

To be honest, we're not sure we're comfortable with the Kardashian-Jenners – who are, dare we say it, only famous for being famous – being such major societal architects. Are we entering some evil dystopia where people only care about selfies, plastic surgery and getting hold of a lip kit? Will the world as we know it crash down around us while we're all too glued to our screen to notice? We'll just leave this very informative documentary here...
