I Present To You Some Of The Most Shocking Emmy Nomination Snubs And Surprises
Some shows can't have their cake and eat it too.
Every year during awards show season, a handful of surprises and snubs shake up the internet when nominations are announced. A few days ago, the nominations for the 2022 Emmys were announced; to put it lightly; there were some big upsets and some pleasant surprises.
To start things off with a bang, I’m going to share the biggest surprise: Inventing Anna scoring a nomination in the outstanding limited series category. Is Julia Garner super talented and will undoubtedly showcase her star quality in Madonna’s biopic? Yes. Did various sound bites from the show go viral on TikTok? Yes. But Inventing Anna received extremely harsh reviews and was not well received. Receiving a nomination in the cutthroat group that is the outstanding limited series category is tough. Still, a big upset was Maid not making it into this year's lineup. The ten-episode series obtained great reviews, and its star, Margaret Qualley, received a nomination for her work in the show. Still, it seems that wasn’t enough for the Television Academy.
Another big snub on this year's nomination list is fan-favorite NBC drama: This Is Us. Including this year, the hit show has received outstanding drama series nominations for four out of its six seasons. Sterling K. Brown, one of the extremely talented leads of the popular drama, was also left out of the best actor category. This is Brown’s first time being left out of the nominations since 2016. An interesting surprise in this category was Christopher Walken’s sci-fi show on Apple TV: Severance. While Walken has been recognized as a Hollywood talent for decades, Severance was a shocker considering the other shows nominated in the outstanding drama series are cult favorites such as Euphoria and Squid Game.
The nominations for the 2022 Emmys may have frustrated some, but there was a record-breaking number of submissions to the Television Academy this year which prompted voters to choose some of the lesser-known shows. The Emmys will air on Monday, September 12th, so mark your calendars!
