Grimes Has Just Explained The Meaning Behind That ‘X Æ A-12’ Baby Name
But we’re still no clearer on how you pronounce it…
On Tuesday, Grimes and Elon Musk announced the much-anticipated birth of their first child together. And while fans had been expecting this announcement for some time, what they perhaps hadn’t been expecting was the baby’s name.
After announcing the safe arrival of their infant on social media, Musk was asked what the child, his seventh, would be called. The tech billionaire responded and immediately sent the locked-down world into meltdown with the less-than-catchy “X Æ A-12 Musk”.
Speculation naturally followed as to what the name means, how we are meant to pronounce it and just how the couple came up with it. After radio silence for 24 hours, yesterday Grimes answered our prayers in the way that all angels do in 2020- on twitter.
The musician tweeted “X, the unknown variable… Æ, my elven spelling of AI (love and/or Artificial intelligence)… A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent + (A = Archangel, my favorite song).” And concluded the tweet with the words “metal rat”. So, that clears it up then…
It seems that even Grimes is struggling to get to grips with the exact meaning of her baby’s cryptic name as she was soon corrected by her partner who reminded her that their favourite aircraft is the SR-71, not SR-17.
Since Grimes announced her pregnancy back in January, it was widely assumed that the name she chose for her firstborn wouldn’t be taken straight from of the Penguin Book of Baby Names. But, it’s safe to say that nobody saw X Æ A-12 coming. And with everyone confined to their homes, would-be investigators have had more time to look into the baby’s apparent name. One of the most popular theories is that X Æ A-12 is code for the real name of the child. Grimes’ last album featured a track titled ‘4 Æ M’ meaning “for Æ Musk”, giving weight to the idea that the announced name may well be a cypher.
Whatever the truth is about the child’s name, they will be in good company with fellow celebrity offspring Kal-El, Kulture Kiari and Pilot Inspektor.
