Glenn Martin Makes 2022 Diesel Debut In Short Film

A fusing of fashion, fabrication and reality.

POSTED BY EMILY BARKHAM

After being appointed Creative Director at Diesel in October 2020, Glenn Martens debuts his first runway show. The Spring/Summer 2022 collection is showcased through a seven-minute short film created by Frank Lebon at Milan Fashion Week.

The film seems to blur the lines between fabrication and reality and throws the viewer into a psychedelic dreamworld of flashing lights, denim, and leather. The video opens with up-and-coming model Ella Snyder, the flame-haired protagonist, at a party wearing the classic Diesel uniform of a white t-shirt and jeans.

The film showcases the collection in four different sections, first and after-party that then transitions to an ‘morning after’ urban street scene, a futuristic office arrival and then a red room. Denim and leather make frequent appearances in the collection but are innovatively designed. Multiple pockets on denim trousers and leather belts woven through garments are just some of the highlights integrating Diesel’s unused fabrics, as well as trompe l’oeil prints and bleached patterns.

The collection continues to then explore t-shirts and blazers with splashes of pink materializing throughout. The visual closes in the red room that feels almost Martian, debuting colour-blocked outfits and pointed stiletto heels to match.
