Givenchy's Fresh Face In China

A new chapter.

POSTED BY OANA CRISTINA GRIGORESCU

In a move that marks a new chapter for Givenchy in China, the iconic French fashion house has named the renowned Chinese actress Li Bingbing as its latest brand ambassador. This strategic partnership aligns with Givenchy's vision to deepen its connection with the Chinese market, where the brand has been increasingly focusing its efforts.

Li Bingbing is not new to the world of fashion and brand partnerships, having previously held roles with other luxury brands, including Gucci. However, her appointment by Givenchy is notable as she steps in as the brand's third spokesperson in China, and significantly, the first since the departure of creative director Matthew Williams in December last year.

At 51, Li Bingbing brings a wealth of experience and a diverse fan base to the partnership. Known internationally for her roles in films like "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" and "The Meg," Li has also been a vocal advocate for environmental causes, serving as an ambassador for WWF Earth Hour and the United Nations Environment Programme. This multifaceted persona resonates well with Givenchy's ethos of blending tradition with contemporary values.

Her involvement in Givenchy's Year of the Dragon Lunar New Year campaign earlier this year was perhaps a prelude to this announcement, showcasing her as a fitting embodiment of the brand's aesthetic and values. With over 42 million followers on Weibo, Li's influence in China is undeniable, making her an ideal figure to carry forward Givenchy's legacy and innovative spirit in the Chinese market.

Givenchy's choice of Li Bingbing as a brand ambassador underscores the brand's strategy to not only elevate its presence in China but also to connect with its audience through figures that embody elegance, resilience, and a commitment to social causes.

How do you see her role influencing Givenchy's presence in China? Do you think this move will significantly boost Givenchy's appeal in the Chinese market?
