From Basic To Pinterest-Worthy: Leggings Outfits Glow-Up

Cause who said comfort can’t be stylish?

POSTED BY ANNMARY MAILYAN

Once you start wearing leggings, there’s no going back—I’ve heard it countless times, and honestly? I totally get it. They are far more comfortable than jeans or tailored pants; you can wear them all day long and not feel restricted at all. Still, they come with one common drawback that makes people overlook them: they can be quite tricky to style, as they don’t pair as easily as other bottoms. But with a few simple tricks, you can make your leggings outfit look just as cool as any other.

Oversized topwear

The number one rule is to keep the balance. Which means always wearing oversized silhouettes with leggings. With slimmer pieces, the outfit can feel off. For a more casual mood, opt for chunky sweaters, hoodies, and tees. And if you want your outfit to feel more refined, go for oversized button-up shirts, blazers, cardigans, and even trench coats. Another option is to wear a crop top or a sports bra with these pants, especially if you’re running errands or hitting the gym.

Emphasizing the waistline

My favorite way to wear leggings is with a plaid t-shirt or a zip-up hoodie tied around the waist. It instantly adds shape and elevates the look, like something straight off a Pinterest fashion board. It also beautifully highlights your waistline, which is always a nice bonus. And, of course, it’s practical too, especially if the weather suddenly changes.

Hiding the ankles

The ankle area can sometimes make the leggings outfit feel unfinished, leaving too much empty space and visually shortening the legs. To avoid that, opt for boots. They make the look feel more put-together and visually lengthen your legs. If you prefer sneakers, just add high socks over the leggings. It will fill the gap and serve as a subtle styling detail.

Chunky textures

If you want your outfit to stand out, focus on texture. Heavier fabrics, like leather, denim, or tweed, add structure and make the ensemble feel more intentional. Even a puffer jacket or a vest can work. On the other hand, lighter materials such as silk, lace, or satin don't always pair with leggings and can throw the outfit off balance.

Finishing accessories

If you’ve seen at least one “wearing vs. styling” video on Instagram or TikTok, you know just how much accessories matter. They’re real outfit savers, turning even the most basic look into something cool. A simple tee with leggings can feel too plain. But add a cap, a chunky necklace, a watch, or hoop earrings, and suddenly it feels much more put-together, giving off that effortless Pinterest girl energy.

They say fashion demands sacrifices, but it doesn’t always have to. I believe that you can always mix comfort with style and make it work. Just like we did here with leggings. And if you’re ready to give them a second chance and build cool outfits, my Fizzypicks are at your service.
