Fashion Influencers Vs Shopping Influencers
The growing divide.
Fashion is an art medium as personal and complex as any other so is it any wonder that people who have poured time and energy into learning the history or techniques are protective of its definition.
The Intersection of Fashion and Commerce
It's no question that shopping is a part of fashion, but we know there is so much more to it. This is especially true in the age of fast fashion where fashion is less and less personal. This is a massive part of why some fashion influencers have called for a separation of shopping influencers from the fashion world.
Not a total separation of course, but certainly a separate title.
This would definitely be a positive for consumers. They would be able to find content better suited to their interests and be able to avoid the pressure to overconsume if that's something that would affect them.
This would also benefit influencers. The more neatly someone fits into a niche the more appealing they can be to their following. Fashion influencers tend to be appealing to people who want inspiration, whereas shopping influencers would be appealing to people who need help knowing where to shop.
The only downside is the possibility that people may avoid shopping influencers with the ever-growing desire to be more eco-friendly. There has been a downward trend in young people buying new clothes. This trend may affect influencers regardless of their title.
