POSTED BY EMMA BURTON

I'm still new to Sustainable life, so having guidance and knowledge of eco-friendly lifestyles is a game-changer, and following influential people who implement impactful practices is critical in the current climate.

Here are my Top 10 Female Sustainable Influencers who inspire me to take action and create a safe space to allow mistakes and growth in 2024!

And they were kind enough to speak to me briefly about their sustainable journeys.

1. @thrifty.fantaisie

Belfast girl Abby began her sustainable venture on Instagram. The 22-year-old content creator and writer spreads sustainable awareness through her colorful content!

"After Covid, I wanted to change up my style. I felt unconfident in my clothes, so I began documenting that process here. I started following more people in the sustainable fashion community and understanding the issues with fast fashion and its frightening environmental impact. 2 years ago, I decided to focus on purchasing second-hand or ethically and sustainably made clothes. I wanted to use the clothes I already owned more and not support fast fashion or promote that on my page. I immersed myself in second-hand buying, selling, renting and swapping platforms such as 'Vinted', 'Byrotation', and 'Nuw'. Since then, I have worked with various small sustainable businesses such as 'Suri', 'Kind Bag' and 'Fussy', sharing how we can all choose alternative options which make our lives a little bit more sustainable."

2. @thethriftyedit_

Plus size preloved and sustainable influencer Aimee has been implementing sustainable practices from an early age!

"My Nan and Mum introduced me to the wonderful world of charity shops, and browsing with them is my favorite hobby! Over the past years, I have become more conscious of fast fashion's carbon footprint. So, I decided to focus on only buying pre-owned and sustainable clothes and have not looked back.
It has been amazing to share my love of second-hand clothes online. Being part of the sustainable fashion community has helped me be happy with my body, be bold with my style, wear things I love and be confident! My favorite sustainable brand is @the.reloved.club based in East London, and I recommend The Charity Shop Giftcard as a present for charity shop fanatics!"

3.  @amylorenzx

Based in Essex, 23-year-old Amy is all about mid-size sustainable fashion and spreading body positivity!

"I want to show the benefits of shopping second-hand. I educate people on the benefits it provides both for the environment and individuals. I post various styling reels, come thrift with my videos and charity shop hauls, and have been shopping almost exclusively second-hand for three years. After lockdown, I had changed sizes and needed to refresh my wardrobe. Due to monetary reasons, I did this in charity shops and started to learn the negative impacts of fast fashion, where I decided I didn't want to support it anymore.
One of my favorite sustainable swaps is period pants! They're comfy, discreet and easy to use - I wash them with my usual wash loads and re-wear them."

4. @what_chloe_thrifts

27-year-old vintage vibe Chloe has been thrifting since she could walk!

"My granny used to take me to charity shops and car boots when I was little, but I started learning more about slow living during lockdown. I hate the fast fashion industry and how it exploits workers, so shopping second-hand is my passion. I also love to use sustainable swaps daily, like skincare (I use 'up-circle beauty') and period products like my moon cup, and I rarely go anywhere without my reusable water bottle!"

5. @feelingpeachygreen

Nature lover Eleanor uses her platform to raise awareness of sustainable practices to help prevent climate catastrophe and highlights the importance of keeping our futures safe!

"I'm a charity shopper and nature lover based in the Peak District, promoting those tricky ways to 'do our bit'. I'm on an imperfectly eco journey, taking you with me - there's no formal training in sustainability here (I specialized in Viking studies in my degree!) - but with me, you can find passion, interest, and dedication to buying secondhand, buying less, and learning how to adapt our lifestyles to be more environmentally friendly. All we need is 'Passion, hope and changed behavior’, and in the words of Maggie from Maggie and the Ferocious Beast, "Come along if you can!"

6. @thethriftedthreds

Volunteering in charity shops sparked Hannah's passion for thrifting!

"I'm almost 30 now, and my love for promoting secondhand fashion is stronger than ever! I wanted to share my charity shop finds and thrifted outfits, so in 2018 I started 'The Thrifted Threds'. I met an incredible community of like-minded thrifters and began further understanding sustainability and the dark side of fast fashion. I stopped buying new clothes in July 2019 and never looked back. I post midsize thrifted styling videos, charity shopping with me, sharing my thrift finds and more!"

7. @izzy_manuel

Lover of all things colorful and fun - Izzy is a sustainable, ethical fashion and lifestyle influencer!

"I love to champion imperfect sustainability and show how we can make positive changes that make a big difference! I studied Chemistry at university, and this sparked my interest in sustainability. We had a whole module on sustainability and learning about the science and chemistry behind sustainable practices, which made me want to share that information with others in a way that is accessible and easy to understand!"

8. @lydsustainableliving

Nottingham student Lydia uses her platform to share easy, attainable solutions and lifestyle swaps. Currently studying a Master's in Sustainable Business Leadership, Lydia wants to make her sustainable changes international, creating multilingual content whilst removing period stigmas!

"After going vegan and stopping shopping from fast fashion brands, I created my Instagram page to hold myself accountable and share tips that I found along the way. Recently, I launched my website, where I write more in-depth posts and branch out into writing in French and English to widen my audience and make positive sustainable changes!

I am also very passionate about eradicating period poverty, looking to go deeper into this field to help wherever I can – creating posts about sustainable period care online and doing a few courses, which will hopefully mean I can teach other groups about menstruation to remove stigma."

9. @threadsforpenny

London-based Penny shines the light on sustainable fashion and living an eco-lifestyle!

"I love to encourage people to shop secondhand, to upcycle their clothes, and to make small swaps that are more sustainable for the planet and their wallets. The 'Cupple' reusable water bottle is my current favorite sustainable swap. It combines a water bottle and a coffee cup and has helped me reduce my disposable coffee cup consumption! I fell into shopping more sustainably through the online Thrifty community, which has helped educate me on the impacts of fast fashion, so in return, I try to help educate others! My advice for people who want to shop more sustainably is to unsubscribe from those fast fashion emails - they can be so tempting!!"

10. @therethreadedit

26-year-old London girl Rosie shares sustainable practices, big or small, any chance she gets!

"Fresh out of uni in 2020, my Instagram page was born during lockdown, accompanied by a blog where I could share everything I was learning about living sustainably while the world slowed down. The blog has closed its doors, but my writing and work continue to merge with sustainability and exploring nature's beauty.

My sustainable journey started at uni when I realized the true impact of fast fashion and overconsumption and stopped purchasing from any fast fashion brands since. Now, I incorporate sustainability into more aspects of my life, from small daily habits to big changes like trying to grow my food!"

Editor note: I have also begun my sustainable journey, feel free to join me! @emmaburtonblog
