Debunking The 'Fashion Rules'

I'm sure we're all aware that there are a lot of fashion 'rules' to follow. It's funny, because I like structure—outfit formulas and an awareness of what to avoid—but there are quite a few rules that I simply cannot agree with.

Firstly, the idea that you can't wear black and navy together. One of my friends' go-to business casual looks is a navy cardigan, black midi skirt, gold jewelry, and a brown leather handbag, and I think it's so grown-up and chic.

What about mixed metals? I may be a gold girlie through and through, but sometimes I find a silver piece that I just adore. Mixing gold and silver allows me to get the best of both worlds, and works especially well with my more edgy, modern looks and lots of layered clothing—the key is to make it feel intentional.

Another one is mismatched prints. People will hiss at you if you show up in both leopard and zebra print, or stripes and polka dots, but I promise, there are ways it can be done. If you have a top with one print that's the focal point, the other print could take the form of an accessory.
