Why I’m Ready For Sweater Weather

Finding the perfect knit for fall 2026.

Knitwear is probably one of the most versatile clothing categories to exist. Sweaters, cardigans, scarves, gloves, leg warmers — anything can be knit!

For me, nothing beats an oversized, cozy knitted sweater. The bigger, the better! As someone who suffers in the colder weather, sweaters really are my only reprieve, so it’s a good thing they can be cute. Although, I do think there’s something endearing about an ugly sweater…

Another item in the knitwear hall of fame that I never shut up about is cardigans. I actually wore one a few times over the summer — I just love them so much! They’re such a great layering piece, adding new texture and/or color to any outfit. I’ll be a happy woman when I own a cardigan in every color!

Knit accessories have also been super popular in recent years. While scarves and gloves are definitely timeless, the resurgence of the ’80s leg warmer trend certainly took me by surprise! I remember dressing up in them for a ridiculous, exaggerated ’80s dance costume as a child, so I never thought I’d be wearing them casually. While in 2026 we probably won’t be wearing them in the bold, neon colors of the ’80s, it’s definitely a fashion trend that has returned.

If you didn’t think knitwear was versatile enough, it also comes in a ridiculously large variety of textures. From classic cable knit to high-end cashmere, the possibilities are endless. I love pairing thinner knit scarves with thick, chunky cable-knit sweaters.

Some of my favorite knit pieces from my own wardrobe that I’ll be wearing this fall include my cream babydoll jumper, a thin, breathable knit with a fun cable pattern through the flowy bottom half; my cornflower blue cardigan, with oversized sleeves that are perfect for tucking my hands into when I’ve forgotten my gloves; and, of course, my pink fluffy socks. They’re super warm and cozy, but also add such a girly, feminine touch when they peek out over the edge of a pair of boots.
