‘jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy” is the highly anticipated three-part documentary streaming on Netflix as of last week, and although there has been a huge amount of buzz surrounding the docuseries, fans have been confused surrounding Kanye’s involvement in the show. Prior to the release of the show Kanye stated that he wanted to re-edit the documentary and even threatened to cancel its release but has since promoted the series and celebrated its successes.

Since Kanye’s criticism of the final edit a few weeks ago, the directors of the documentary have defended their artistic decisions and the choice that they made to ignore Kanye’s wish to “be in charge of” his image. Directors Coodie Simmons and Chike Ozah state that they welcomed Kanye’s input but were true to themselves as a company and as filmmakers by honouring authenticity in their production. It was this authenticity that led the directors to refuse Kanye in his plight for the final say on the docuseries. However, it appears that since the release of the first instalment of the documentary Kanye has been happy with the outcome and has been supporting it in its release, suggesting a change in heart from the rapper following on from his earlier critique of the final edit.

The second instalment of “jeen yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy” will be released February 23rd 2022.
