Art Of The Orgasm: Dafne Blade’s Sculpture Made Of 100 Vibrators

Sculpture made up of decommissioned magic wands.

It's nearly a year on since the creator of one of pop cultures most infamous sex toys invited audiences to come see… and experience an exhibit made up entirely of decommissioned vibrators

Curated by Miami-based artist Dafne Blade, the sensual sculpture was the renowned winner of last year's nationwide “Pleasure As Art” contest held by Vibratex themselves. Since then the sculpture has been a traveling exhibit across the nation, now finding home at Kayla Adams “Sex in Space” immersive exhibition located in the Erotic Heritage Museum.

Situated in the shadows of Las Vegas’ Boulevard the Erotic Heritage Museum plays host to a labyrinth of sexual artifacts from the worlds largest sex bike to the live screening of “Puppetry of the Penis”. - This museum is certainly not for the bashful.

Contrary to its mischievous nature the museum is seen to be unexpectedly modest, with the purpose not being to arouse but to educate those who enter. Covering all aspects of human sexuality to date within culture the museum now has began to shift its gaze towards the future of sex.

An aspect in which Blade heavily focused on incorporating into her work was the future of gender and blurring the lines between reality and fantasy. Inspired by "the magical portal feeling of moongates," when analyzing her sculpture you can see the throne-like structure of vibrators has been carefully designed to surround a “portal” that contains a genderdless entity. Overall giving a noticeably sci-fi result to her end product.

Blades intentions being for the genderless centre-piece to welcome all visitors to become the centre of their own sexuality by either placing themselves within the throne-like chair or consensually engaging with them on the opposite side by turning on the vibrators. With no sexual organs being prominent within the piece, there is better understanding into how Blade wanted this entity to be inclusive of all genders. "I didn’t want to exclude people with penises from being able to feel like the entity." States Blade, “inclusivity and empowerment for everyone.”

Blade’s overly-sensitive attention to detail within her work allows us to discover a new found vision of how we can celebrate gender fluidity within sex, consent and self-pleasure.
